I eagerly sat beside my mother, unaware that the inside of my throat was about to be carved

I FOLLOWED THEIR FOOTSTEPS IN SECRET:
Because manhood does not wait for permission

THE MOMENT OF NO RETURN:
I stood trembling naked between fear and becoming a man

WHEN THE BLOODY KNIFE TOUCHED THE MORNING:
Boyhood screamed and was not answered

WHEN THE SCREAMS HAD NOWHERE TO GO:
In the fog-thick stillness of the sacred forest, boyhood ended on the bloody ground before the sun rose

I HELD MY BREATH UNTIL MORNING:
And they called it the strength of becoming a man

In smoke, terrifying silence, shared wounds, and a knife

I waved at mannequins, and the city laughed with me

Even without knowing where it was, I began to think of America

When the sky became normal, and the miracle began to feel real

The paradise I saw at village open-air cinemas and school geography books, was waiting just beyond the clouds
